10 of the Coldest Places On Earth

During winters, we are all chilly feet, cold hands, shivering and with frozen spines. It feels wonderful to sit out in the sun and just close our eyes, in short sun bathing sounds like bliss. There are, however, places on this earth that see sunshine for only a single day during the whole year and that too if they get lucky. Places that are so cold when can easily lose toes and fingers because of frost bite.

This list will cover ten coldest places on earth. Two of them are from Russia, two from Canada, two from the US, two from Greenland, and two from Antarctica!

Oymyakon – Coldest Place in Russia

This is a place in Russia that observes winters for long periods of time. The coldest month of the year if February when the temperature in Fahrenheit scale is -96 and on the Celsius scale is – 71.1.

Verkhoyansk – Russia

It is one of those places in Russia that suffer from extreme summer and extreme winter seasons. The winter time is the coldest of all and lasts longer than summers in Russia. The coldest temperature is -89.8 on the Fahrenheit scale and -67.7 on the Celsius scale.

Fort Selkirk – Yukon, Canada

In 1950 this place was deserted because of extreme cold conditions. It is now inhabited again but is only accessible via a boat or a plane. The coldest month is January and the lowest temperature is -74 on the Fahrenheit.

Snag – Yukon, Canada

The weather is chilly and freezing in this small place in Canada. The sky is filled with fog and chilly winds with frost. The coldest month is again January and the lowest temperature recorded is -81.4 on the Fahrenheit scale.

Prospect Creek – Alaska- Coldest Place in USA

This place has a sub-arctic sort of weather which means that winters last for a long period of time and summers are very short. Weather conditions are even more severe now so the area is less crowded now. The coldest temperature recorded is -79.6 on the Fahrenheit scale.

Rogers Pass – Montana, USA

It ranks as the tenth closest place in the world and specially famous for all the geese that fly this way in the winter. The coldest months are March and April and the lowest recorded temperature is -69.7 on the Fahrenheit scale.

North Ice – Greenland

This is the fifth coldest place in the world. The lowest temperatures recorded are -86.8F and -66C. It was once the name of a research station.

Eismitte-Greenland

This place is on the interior Arctic side of Greenland. This place has ice everywhere and therefore it is rightfully called Mid-Ice or Center-Ice. The coldest temperature on record is -84.8 on the Fahrenheit scale.

Vostok – Antarctica

This place is on the pole to the South of Russia and experiences the coldest temperatures ever. The coldest month in Vostok is August where the lowest naturally recorded temperature is -128.6 on the Fahrenheit scale and -89.2 on the Celsius scale.

Plateau Station – Antarctica

After Vostok, this is second most coldest place on earth which was closed down in the year 1969. The coldest month being July, the lowest naturally recorded temperature was -119.2 on the Fahrenheit scale.
